When Betty Smith moved to Cleveland from North Carolina in 2009, she truly hoped her days of back pain were over. Mrs. Smith had undergone two previous spine surgeries with some relief. She did not relish the thought of facing the post-operative pain and the length of recovery from her past experiences, and tried to be careful with her activities. Even after those two surgeries, she still could not pick up her first grandson, Haden. Life was good, but certainly not pain free.
Dr. Robins examines Betty Smith after surgery.
Last year she drove to North Carolina to visit Haden and her daughter, Chelsea, for a few days. Every grandparent understands the joy of a new grandchild, especially the first! She only had a few days off work from her job at a local automotive merchant, but the few days turned into more than she planned.
After driving back from North Carolina to Cleveland, Betty was in too much pain to move her legs and get out of the car. She had to have help getting out of the car and to the see Dr. Robins.
Dr. Robins told Betty the disc where she has had two previous corrective surgeries had collapsed. She was facing possible permanent nerve damage, and her pain levels were unbearable, rated 10 out of a possible 10, making the possibility of conservative care impossible. The surgery was a great success and Betty was back to work in only two weeks! ---
